Review of Head Games

Head Games (Buffalo Intimidators, #1)Head Games by Cassandra Carr
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cassandra Carr's Head Games is a great read.  I love reading how this normal girl struggled coming to terms with how a relationship with two men will work.  And oh man, do these men know how to heat up a kitchen.  Scott and Leo are teammates and know how to share play on and off the ice.  If you like menage (M/F/M), read this book!

Been Busy

Blogaholic Designs”=

Ok, so I haven't been doing much on my blog lately.  And while I didn't have an excuse for August, I do have a reason for September.  I turned 40 this year and as you know that means the dreaded mammogram.  So I had my very first mammogram on Sept 2nd.  This was the Friday before Labor day so they told me they would call on Tuesday if they needed additional pictures.  So on Tuesday I received the call for additional pictures.  I wasn't worried because my mom and my girlfriend have had to go back because of dense breast tissue.  So I went in on Sept 7th.  This time they look at the pictures right away and they pulled me into a room told me the wanted to biopsy the calcifications they found in the mammogram.  Ok, this is where I majorly started freaking out!  So with the help of the women in the breast center, they set me up an appointment with a surgeon.  I met with my surgeon on the 8th and he agreed with the biopsy.  On Monday the 12th I had the biopsy and would have the results by Wednesday.  My surgeon called me on Tuesday and told me that I have DCIS.  Which is the lowest level of breast cancer from what I have read online only about 5% of calcifications end up being cancerous.  Lucky me right?  So I met with the surgeon again and the next step is a lumpectomy to remove the cells.  He goes over the risks and says about 20% of the time the procedure does not get all the cells and a second lumpectomy may be needed.  He also said I would not need chemo but would wait until an oncologist looked at my results to determine if I would need radiation.  So I had my lumpectomy on Tuesday Sept. 27th.  Now we are getting closer to the present.  On Friday the 30th, my surgeon called with the results from the lumpectomy and just my luck I'm in the 20%.  So now I have to have another lumpectomy to remove more cells.  Today is 2 wks from my lumpectomy, I feel great.  I meet with my surgeon again on Thursday, where I assume I will get the stitches removed and I assume we will talk about any additional treatment I may need after my second lumpectomy.  And as for my second lumpectomy that is happening a week from Friday.  Going to NYC Comic Con this coming weekend and I don't want to miss that.

Ok, so that's my story and to all my friends who are 40 and over, get your mammograms.  Early detection is key.  If you have a family history you  may need to get checked before you are 40.

RomCon 2011

I had an unexpected surprise of winning 2 tickets to RomCon in Denver, CO.  So I called up my friend who lives in Denver and flew out there.  Here are a few pictures of me at RomCon.

(wish I had gotten better pictures of the posters).
 Jennifer Ashley/Allyson James

The parting photo of my new friend Nikki, my friend from Jen and Jessa.

So I had a blast at RomCon, now that I am home I have to unpack and repack for AAD Philly.  I head into Philly on Thursday morning with my friend Melisssa.  I'll have more pictures later.

Night Bites by Nina Bangs

Night Bites (Mackenzie Vampires, #2)Night Bites by Nina Bangs

Blurb
Cindy Harper has an ice-cream flavor for every emotion. Vanilla caramel fudge eases the stress of dealing with her weird and wacky guests at the Woo Woo Inn. But no sweet treat from her freezer is smooth, creamy, or tempting enough to cool down her dark fantasies about Thrain Davis.
Thrain is a man to be enjoyed on a strictly primitive level. Every woman who’s ever seen him smile wonders about the pleasure his mouth could give her and recognizes the secrets in his hard blue gaze. Too late Cindy realizes the danger of inviting an ancient vampire into her inn. The concept of fanged creatures of the night scares her witless. Besides, he forces her to examine her past when she’s just fine with her present. He does have an upside, though. Who needs ice cream when you have a hot and yummy immortal in your bed?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great book by Nina Bangs. This books takes place after the first book. In the first book we met Thrain Davis who is a friend of the hero of the first book Darach Mackenzie. Thrain takes it upon himself to find Darach's long lost daughter, the daughter he doesn't know he has. Cindy Harper owns a little B&B which caters to people who believe in the supernatural. Cindy has lived for quite a long time but she doesn't want to become a research project to find out why.

Again, Sparkle and Ganymede are back. Sparkle's goal in life is to cause chaos by setting up people who are completely wrong for each other. These two supporting characters are terrific.

Master of Ecstasy by Nina Bangs

Master of Ecstasy (Mackenzie Vampires, #1)Master of Ecstasy by Nina Bangs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

BLYTHE SPIRIT
Her trip in time to 1785 Scotland was supposed to be a vacation, so why did Blythe feel that her stay at the MacKenzie pile of stones had her imagination working overtime, making helpful suggestions about every bump in the night: demon, considers you yummy take-out; really ugly gargoyle, wants to sleep in your bed.

So she wasn't at all surprised when the first hunk she met turned out to be Mr. Dark-Evil-and-Deadly himself, an honest-to-goodness vampire. His voice was a tempting way above 88.6 degrees, but when Darach whispered, "To waste a neck such as yours would be a terrible thing," she decided his pillow talk left a lot to be desired.

Dangerous? You bet. To die for? Definately. Soul mate? Just wait and see

My thoughts:

This was a great start to the Mackenzie Vampire series. You are introduced to 2 hilarious supporting characters that play a part this series as well as the Castle of Dark Dreams series. Ganymede and Sparkle Stardust are cosmic trouble makers. A woman from the future meets a vampire when she takes a vacation to the past. This vacation is important for Blythe, it's a working vacation. She has to complete a job without becoming emotionally involved with the person she needs to make happy. Darach Mackenzie is the subject of her new job and a 500 year old vampire.

The main characters Blythe and Darach are a great! I like the background of the Mackenzie vampires.

Eternal Prey by Nina Bang

Eternal Prey (Gods of the Night, #3)Eternal Prey by Nina Bangs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I think this was was my favorite of the series so far. This one is about Utah, one of the Utah raptor triplets. He has a bit of a grudge against the vampires. His human driver is the human daughter of the vampire queen from the last book. Her father has told her she needs to live a little before he will let her become a vampire. Let's just say these two don't always see eye to eye about vampires. I truly cannot wait for the next one.

I borrowed this book and the previous two books from my girlfriend Krissy.  Hopefully I will get better with reviews.  If you check out this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Eternal Cravings - Gods of Night book 2 by Nina Bangs

Eternal Craving (Gods of the Night, #2)Eternal Craving by Nina Bangs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. This is the second in the Gods of Night series. The gang has moved onto the next city, Philadelphia. Which is pretty cool since I live about 45 mins for Philly. The heroine is Jenna is the sister of the heroine from the first book, Kelly. Jenna is coming to check in on her sister. The hero, Al is benched because he has anger issues and is having trouble keeping control is his soul. So he has to babysit Jenna.

In this story you get to know the Utah raptor triplets. You also meet the vampire region leader who considers herself the vampire queen. Jude is back, he was the vampire from the first book. Seir is back as well and you get some more information on him.

I really like this series, it has the normal paranormal characters like demons and vampires.  The added bonus are these men with dinosaur souls.  Nina Bangs does a great job.

Worth Your Weight in a ‘Gator Battle Award

Ok, so I of course waited until the last minute and finally decided to throw my name in the ring for the "Worth Your Weight" battle Gini Koch has going on.  I'm new to this series, the first 2 books arrived at my doorstep just last week and I can't wait to read them.  Anyway, I have to nominate 5 bloggers and here they are:
The “Worth Your Weight in a ‘Gator Battle Award” is only given to the wily, the brave, and the cheeky, so get down with your bad self, you’re deemed worthy to run with the A-C’s!

Now you get to spread the awesome by nominating other bloggers who would also be worth their weight in a ‘gator battle. Battling ‘gators is not for sissies or wimps -- only the strong survive -- so choose wisely!

Eternal Pleasure - Gods of Night book 1 by Nina Bangs

Eternal Pleasure (Gods of the Night, #1)Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

THE ELEVEN—an alliance of ultimate predators. Primal, lethal, irresistible.

THE PROPHECY—an ancient Mayan prediction that the world will end on 12-21-12.

THE PREY—where can you hide from pure evil?

Kelly Maloy opens her car door to much more than a great looking stranger at the Houston airport. Terror, desire, and a horrible truth climb in with him. She’s only supposed to drive Ty Endeka around the city for a few weeks. Too bad no one tells her that once day fades she’ll become part of a battle fought in the darkened streets with an enemy that isn’t human. And the sensual man who feeds her fantasies hides a soul that gives new meaning to animal magnetism.

Eleven Gods of the Night…

The only creatures more deadly are the ones they’ve been summoned to destroy.

Ok so I'm not very good at reviews.

These men aren't your normal shifters. These men can take their previous dinosaur forms. This book contains the usually shifters, vampires and demons. This book was good. I really liked it. I wish I could tell you what I liked specifically but I just can't. I like the book as a whole. I loved the characters and their relationships.

Paranormal Romance Challenge

Photobucket
Bitten By Paranormal Romance is sponsoring a Paranormal Romance Challenge.

I love paranormal romance so this one should be easy for me.  The hard part, doing reviews.  I'm not very good at doing reviews.  I'm easy to entertain.  I dislike very few books that I have read.  I guess I'm just easy!

First in a Series Challenge

I have several series sitting in my TBR pile so hopefully this will help me get some of those books read.
I'm going to try for Series Lover which is at least starting 6 series.  I only picked 6 because once I start the series I will have to finish the books that I have before I move on to the next series.  Wish me luck!

Shifter Challenge

So I haven't posted much in awhile.  I honestly don't know how some people do it.  I'm a slow reader and that is how I spend most of my time.  Whether it's reading other blogs and reviews or reading the tons of books in my TBR pile.  In hopes of decreasing my TBR pile, I'm going to try to do some reading challenges.  The first one is the Shifter Challenge, I will attempt to read 20 books in 2011 where the main character is a shifter.  I'm going to try a few other challenges.  I'll be posting those soon.  Wish me luck!
